Escape + Envelop

Gould’s projects often embody process, tactility and a one-to-one rendering of the world onto light sensitive materials harnessed by a century and a half of photographic science. His geometric frames are a response to previous large scale digital works, which are color and enlarged to enormous scale. These, on the other hand, are photographed using a panoramic camera, whose negative is then used to create a contact print in the darkroom, and finally merged with a meticulously complicated handmade wood frame. The laborious process emphasizes the handmade, from image to sculptural presentation, as a loving tribute to the landscape and its unfaithful, but unique rendering.
